New Institute for Business Innovation in the Balearics

New Institute for Business Innovation in the Balearics
The Cabinet of the Balearic Government has passed a decree to modify the statues of the Balearic Institute of Industrial Development (IDI), that will now be called the Institut d'Innovació Empresarial (IDI).

According to the Govern's press release, with this name change a more definite identification will be obtained for this public entity aimed towards business promotion and not only the industrial sector. Another important change is the incorporation of union centres and business associations in the Board.

The Institut d'Innovació Empresarial originates from the union of the previous Foment Industrial and Institut Balear de Disseny. With this modification of the statutes the objectives of the firm are widened to reach every business area in the Balearics, and not only industrial as was included in the statutes until now.

Other subjects covered by the Cabinet meeting (20/10/2000):

- Fisheries will destine 40 million pesetas to carry out a report on the fish population of the marine reserves of the Islands
- 12 millon pesetas for the reform and equipment of the health centre in Sant Joan
- Subsidy of 72 million pesetas for the restoration of the facades of the Palau Episcopal
- Free cession of the use of a building for ten scientific, health and academic associations
- Support to the participation of the autonomous community in the European Union Committee
