The debate on the future of the European Union

The European Convention, presided by Valery Giscard d'Estaing, celebrated the opening ceremony on February 28 in Brussels. The Convention, organised by the Laeken European Council, will form part of a process of discussion and exchange of ideas which will contribute to the preparation of a further intergovernmental conference planned for 2004.
