Sant Joan celebrates its festivities with capoeira, sport and dance
music
The rest of the island, on the night of Sant Joan, bonfires are lit.
When this magical night arrives, in Sant Joan nine fires are lit behind
the church. The majority observe the panorama, that is completed with the
share out of local wine and doughnuts. But the bravest start to jump the
fires until they go out. Amidst much laughter and some cry of fear.
This charming festivity attracts many people from all over the island.
As in previous years, the most important days of the fiestas of this
municipality, that starts next Friday, will end with a dance. But
the programme also includes musical performances by Aires Formenterencs,
Pota
Lait, del Trio MoonShadow, an exhibition of Brazilian capoeira
(half dance, half martial art) and to end, on June 30, a pensioners' party
and mountain bike ride.
