Eivissa signs on to Internet without cables

>Eivissa has joined the Internet without cables gang waggon. In the United States, the wireless network already has millions of users and is a consolidated reality.  Last weekend, the Club Ibosim, a group of computer fans and users of Linux, carried out trials in Sant Antoni with a one direction aerial, that they installed on the roof of a hotel in the Bay of Portmany.

The members of the club managed to connect to Internet with a laptop from the terrace of a bar at the other side of the bay two kilometres away, in the outskirts of Sant Anoni, in the Can Coix district. The network, with open access, is still working (although without Internet access) and has a wide band of 11 megas per second.

The connections for computers without cables are obtained by installing in the computers special cards for wireless networks and a small aerial (these can be improvised at home using such diverse materials as an empty packet of Pringles, as a member of the Club Ibosim used successfully in the trials.)

You can find more information about how to construct an omnidirectional aerial in  this article of the web Bulma, that also includes how to set up a wireless network with Linux.  You can also find more information on webs such as the Madrid Wireless, Leganés Wireless or Baleares Wireless, three of the wireless networks that have been set up in Spain.
