On Sunday, February 2, the
World
Wetlands Day will be observed with the slogan No wetlands - no water!
to commemorate the signing of the
Convention
on Wetlands in 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar, on the shores of
the Caspian Sea. The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty
which provides the framework for national action and international cooperation
for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. Currently,
there are two wetlands on the Balearic Islands that are part of the Ramsar
list: the
Parc Natural de
s'Albufera de Mallorca, which today celebrates the 15th anniversary
of its creation as a park, and the Parc Natural de Ses Salines d'Eivissa
i Formentera.
To celebrate the date, the
Parc
Natural de s'Albufera de Mallorca has organised a video session about
the wetlands, that will take place in the Park on Saturday, February 1,
at 11 a.m., and the slide show "Una mirada a s'Albufera" by the photographer
and naturalist
Sebastià
Torrens, that will take place on Friday, January 31 at 7.30 p.m.,
in
Can Torró (Alcúdia).
