The European Commission has published the document "Choices for a greener
future. The European Union and the environment". The document describes
the environmental policy of the European Union, highlighting that "protecting
our global environment is not a job for individual governments alone. Effective
action is needed to improve the quality of people's lives while at the
same time safeguarding the nature and combating problems like climate change.
This calls for cooperation and partnership throughout society and at the
international level".
