Lively fiesta for BalearWeb's  Premi Web 2004

70 people attended the closing ceremony of the contest.

Last Friday, May 28, the fiesta for BalearWeb's Premi Web 2004 was held at the Restaurant Layn in Port d'Andratx. The party was attended by 70 people, comprising competitors and ex-competitors, members of the jury and other guests. Worth mentioning is the presence of some authorities, such as the General Director of the Linguistic Policy of the Balearic Government, Miquel Melià, and the deputy mayors and councillors of the Andratx Town Council, Isabel Alemany, José Ángel Prieto and Sebastià; Reus, representing the two institutions that have sponsored this fifth edition of Premi Web 2004.

Others who attended were Macià Blázquez, president of the GOB, Antoni Artigues, Professor of the Department of Catalan Philology of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Toni Font, environment consultant, Antoni Burguera, professor of the Mathematics and Computers of the UIB and member of the jury, and Miquel Piulats, administrator of Softcatalà and member of the jury.

Present also from the jury were Gabriel Perelló, geographer and nature photographer, Antònia Calafat, graphic designer, Miquel Àngel Dora, nature photographer, and François O'Keeffe and Bartomeu Santandreu, winners of last year's first and second Premi Web respectively.

As for the competitors, the real protagonists of the party, amongst others were: Catalina Piris and Guillem Morlà (of Plataforma Tren sí), Tomeu Macaró (of IES Arxiduc), Tomeu Bonet (of IES Berenguer d'Anòia), Antoni Ramis Caldentey (author of ARC-46 and AOIB), Christian Baena (author of Balears Internacional and Miguel Sola :·: Bass Bariton), Javier Moreno (author of Pina, un Paradís per descobrir), Carles Noguera and Toni Canuto (authors of Fora des Sembrat), Miquel Bezares (author of El lector híbrid), Marc Sànchez (author of Mallorca Rock), Pep Maria Miró Llull (author of Història i tècnica del gravat a Mallorca), Marita Torres (author of S'Eixam Mallorquí), Anna Tarragona (author of Tarragona + Hoehne Arquitectes), Pau Genestra (author of Estima Mallorca), Raúl Abejón (author of Illes Balears, terres de vi), Joan Andreu Juan (author of S'Altra Web), Toni Salas (author of Puig de Maria, Pollença), Tomeu Alorda (author of Xarxa de Biblioteques Públiques de Menorca) and Òscar Barber (author of Sant Joan: Festes de Ciutadella de Menorca).

The party was enjoyed in an informal atmosphere with expectation to hear the names of the three winners. The prize giving took place after the dinner, starting with a few words from the director of BalearWeb, Ramon Sellas, to thank the competitors, the members of the jury and the sponsors for their participation in this fifth edition of the contest. Then, in the name of the jury, the webmaster of BalearWeb, Elena Vera, announced the names of the winners and to close the speakers were Isabel Alemany, second deputy mayor and councillor for Youth and Tourism of the Andratx Town Council, and Miquel Melià, general director of Linguistic Policy of the Balearic Government.

According to the decision of the jury, formed by Pep Toni Rubio, Antoni Burguera, Miquel Piulats, Iker Tolosa, Antonio Fernández Coca, Jaume Vidal, Óscar Bagur, Antònia Calafat, Miquel Ángel Dora, Biel Perelló, Pere Josep Bueno, Marià Castelló, François O'keeffe, Bartomeu Santandreu and Elena Vera, the winners of Premi Web 2004 are:

1st Prize. Òscar Barber for Sant Joan: Festes de Ciutadella de Menorca

2nd Prize. Tomeu Alorda for Xarxa de Biblioteques públiques de Menorca

3rd Prize. Toni Salas for Puig de Maria, Pollença

With the celebration of the fiesta and prize giving, the events concluded organised by BalearWeb for the fifth edition of the contest that has the objective of promoting contents relating to the culture and economy of the Balearic Islands and Pitiüses on Internet.
