Salt flats of the Balearics. The invented landscape
Exhibition at the Sa Nostra Cultural Hall.
With the aim of promoting the important natural and cultural heritage that salt production has left us, the Sa Nostra Cultural Hall in Eivissa will present from December 21st to February 17th the exhibition "Salt flats of the Balearics. The invented landscape". The audiovisual installation produced by the Sa Nostra Foundation and commissioned by Miquel Frontera, features information about eleven salt flats in the Balearic Islands:
- Salt flats of l'Illot in Muro
- Salt flats of Es Salobrar and salt flats of Es Trenc in Campos
- Els Estanys in la Colònia de Sant Jordi
- Fontanelles in Palma
- Salt flats of Mongofra in Maó
- Salt flats Velles in Fornells
- Salt flats of Carbonell and salt flats of Addaia in Es Mercadal
- Salt flats of Eivissa in Sant Josep
- Salt flats of Formentera in Sant Francesc Xavier
The exhibition also includes tools related to salt production and some related works of great cultural interest such as the photographies by Francesc Català-Roca, the filmography by Jacinto Esteva or the poetry by Marià Villangómez. The salt flats of the islands, some of which have been working since the punic or roman times, represent nowadays a heritage that is disappearing as the only ones that continue in function are the salt flats of Eivissa, Es Salobrar in Campos and Els Estanys in la Colònia de Sant Jordi.
