Greenpeace opposes the Energy Plan
Greenpeace has presented its allegation to the Pla Director Sectorial Energčtic of the Balearics. According to the ecological organisation, this is a plan whose sole objective is to free the way to the construction of new power centres for the production of electricity.

"The objective of the plan is to produce more, not to work towards needing less" declared the Mallorcan, Xavier Pastor, executive director of Greenpeace Espaņa. "This philosophy is in practice the same as the failed plans presented by the previous Government, and we believe that it is again destined to fail, because it does not face the fundamental questions of how and why energy is consumed."

Meanwhile the Central Government Cabinet approved on December 1, 2000, the Royal Decree that guarantees the electrical tariffs for the Balearics may not be higher than the rest of Spain. Therefore the extra cost of producing electricity on the islands, some 40% according to different sources, will not have repercussions on the bill paid for by the Balearic users.
