Sant Antoni celebrates Sant Bartomeu with 16 days of fiestas
The fiestas of Sant Bartomeu have reached Sant Antoni de Portmany already. The municipality offers until September 9 a complete programme to celebrate its festivity, the origin of which is lost in time. One of the legends that is offered as the origin of this celebration explains that some sailers wanted to give thanks because they survived a wreck, reaching the coast on August 24. These fiestas are also related to the traditional veneration of Santa Agnès in Portmany.

But these are only legends....and the programme for the "Festes de Sant Bartomeu" is real.  This weekend, the activities will be centred on the sports activities and in two concerts, on Saturday and Sunday evening in the Plaza de Espanya.

Worth stressing, next Sunday, two days after Sant Bartomeu, that ends with the traditional Firework Display, in the Plaza Nord de l'Esglsia there will be the "IV Mostra de Curtmetratges de Portmany", with the collaboration of the association Incortum.

Also, one of the oldest folkdancing groups on the island Sa Colla de Can Bonet, will celebrate their 20th anniversary, with an exhibition in the cultural centre of Sa Punta de Molí, that will be opened on August 31, after a parade of floats through the town. The Ayuntamiento de Sant Antoni has destined six million pesetas for this year's fiestas.
