"Sounds of the Balearics"
The Obra Cultural Balear has announced the recording of a compact disk "Sons de les Balears", with a view to paying tribute to the musical memory of the archipelago and the literary tradition via the recording of popular numbers with symphonic arrangements applied to music of the islands.

"Sons de les Balears" bases its roots in the macroconcerts "Mallorca es presenta" and "Les Balears es presenten", that took place in 1992 in Barcelona, in 1993 in Valencia and in 1994 in Palma, directed by Antoni Parera Fons, with the performances by Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears, la Coral Universitat Illes Balears, Maria del Mar Bonet, Lluís Llach, Ovidi Montllor, Joan Pons and the guitarists Toti Soler and Ximo Tébar.

The compact disc Sons de les Balears, produced by the Obra Cultural Balear, is being recorded at the moment at the 'Conservatori de Música i Dansa de les Illes Balears.' The first 5.000 copies, that will appear on the market at Christmas, will make up the limited edition for collectors that will be illustrated by different photographs and Catalan-speaking writers.

The artistic direction of the productions is by Antoni Parera Fons; the conductors of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra and the Balearic University Choir are Luis Remartínez and Joan Company respectively, the sound engineer is Steve Taylor; arrangements by J.A. Amargós, Miquel Brunet, Joan Casas, Pere Hope, J.L. Moraleda, Antoni Parera Pons and L. Vidal; and the interpreters are the Coral Universitat de les Illes Balears, Maria del Mar Bonet, Lluís Llach, Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears, Joan Pons, Toti Soler and Uc.
