Advanced Cell Technology clones human embryo

Biotechnology company Advanced Cell Technology Inc., based in Massachusetts, announced on Sunday it had cloned the first human embryo. Although Advanced Cell Technology said that the development is aimed not at creating a human being but at mining the embryo for stem cells to treat a wide range of diseases, the research has raised a heated debate over ethics on cloning and several religious groups and political leaders have already expressed their total opposition to human cloning.
