The Euro. One currency for Europe
As from January 1, 2002, the Euro will become the common currency for 12 member states of the European Union nations. The twelve nations in the Euro zone are Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Finland; and the three other states that remain out of the zone are United Kingdom, Denmark and Sweden.

The arrival of the Euro coincides with the Spanish EU presidency, during the firsts six moths of the 2002 year.
