This is without doubt one of the most important centres for fans of
the new technologies on the Island. The
Club
Ibosim was born in 1991 as a BBS. As the years passed by it became
more popular, where a good group of people from Eivissa and Sant Antonio
met and also visited by people outside the Balearics and abroad, at a time
when Internet was not what it is now, when interprovincial and international
tariffs were paid if the remote information was to be accessed.
With the extension of Internet, many BBS disappeared, and the groups
of people who met around them separated. In the case of Ibosim, this
group evolved, it transformed. The BBS disappeared but they stayed together
and three years ago they became a
non
lucrative association of fans and the extension of knowledge and use
of computer information. As their home page says, "the idea is to
make computer studies not only a relationship between the user and the
computer, but rather between users and the computer", sharing experiences
and helping each other mutually to enjoy it more.
The group has collaborated in the organisation of the
Campus
Virtuals that are held in Eivissa (the next one at the end of February
which they also participate in) they keep two mailing lists –
one
open to everyone, created in 1999, and another exclusively for members–
and they also have an IRC channel, #club_ibosim on the net of
irc.hispano.org.
