One of the most prestigious sculptors in the present day panorama,
Eva Lootz (although she prefers to talk about objects more than sculptures)
opened an exhibition of her work last Friday at the Van der Voort de Vila
gallery, that can be visited until the end of August.
Lootz, born in Viena in 1940, came in the sixties to Spain and shared
her time and work between Madrid and Valencia. In her first exhibition
on Eivissa she is presenting objects containing sand, a material that this
artist uses frequently. The sand, on coming out of the holes, obtains forms
established by inertia. A few weeks ago, she presented an exhibition in
Madrid, where the very birds became part of her artistic work. A report
on this installation in the Palacio de Cristal del Retiro can be found
on
Libertad
Digital.
Lootz is also presenting in the exhibition at the Van der Voort some
of her "country pictures", fruit of her observation of nature, carried
out on squared paper, where the drawings live together with philosophical
texts or images. The Viennese artist is one of the references for sculptures
in Spain since 1980. Her
curriculum
can be found on the web of the Galería Luis Adelantado and also
a sample of her
work.
In 1994 Lootz received the
Premio
Nacional de Artes Plásticas. On Internet a summary can be found
of a conference given in Brazil called
"Plomada,
secreto y depresión" where she explained how the artist takes
for his of her work what the architect rejects.
