This Friday at the Gallery Van der Voort the exhibition "Encontre"
will open. It is a reunion of the most recent work by the artist,
Edwin Bechtold, and the Italian sculptor, Franco Monti, who exhibits for
the first time in this gallery.
There is little left to say about Bechtold and Eivissa. He was
born in Cologne and has lived in Eivissa since 1958. His curriculum
is impressive. He is the cofounder of the famous group Ibiza 59 and
has won, amongst other distinctions, the prize for the Fomento de las Artes
Decorativas (FAD) 1961 in Barcelona. His work reflects the contrast between
rationality and emotion, but this struggle is always channelled in an orderly
way.
This
text about his work by Lluís G. Socias i Cerdā can also
be read.
The sculptor,
Franco
Monti, resident on the island since 1980, started to sculpt in the
fifties. Then he carried out abstract anthropomorphic forms in stone. At
the beginning of the eighties he began to experiment with new materials,
cardboard, wood and cardboard, while as from 1985 he started to work with
concrete, to which he added pigments and earth to give it colour. You can
consult his biography
here.
The exhibition will remain open until the end of September.
