Sant Miquel de Balansat is one of the villages of Eivissa that preserves
their traditions best. The patron saint festivities for Saint Michael,
the same as the ones for
Passos
de Dijous Sant, on Maundy Thursday, are a good example of this.
From the "Santmiquelada", popular name for the festivities of September
29, particularly outstanding is the Procession and the folk dancing that
are held after the mass at noon; also the reading of the proclamation,
this year by Mariā Serra, president of the
IEE,
that is held in the evening before the dance.
But the people of Sant Miquel are also outstanding for their innovative
spirit and this year they have demonstrated this by organising a Computer
Campus in the fiestas. The Campus will be installed in the municipal
building and will be open all day Saturday 28 and Sunday 29.
The fiestas of Sant Miquel also include many other activities such as
different exhibitions, a popular race, children's activities, musical performances
and a long etcetera. The programme for the weekend can be found in
Catalan
and
Spanish.
