The year
2003
is the centenary of the birth of
Francesc
de Borja Moll, emblematic philologist, linguist and folklorist, and
also a reference for the Catalan language and culture. To celebrate the
birth centenary as from October and throughout the year 2003, in the Balearic
Islands, there will be many activities to recognise, recover and promote
Francesc de Borja Moll's important work.
The opening of the
Borja
Moll Year will take place on Wednesday, October 2, at the Church of
the Socors in Ciutadella, the city where the emblematic philologist was
born. The event will begin at 8 p.m. and will include the presentation
of the honour committee of the centenary celebration, a lecture by Josefina
Salord, the screening of the DVD "
El
català, llengua d'Europa", and a concert by the Capella Davídica.
On Friday, October 4, at 8.30 p.m., in the Palma Music Conservatory, there
will be a second inaugural event consisting of a speech by Josep Antoni
Grimalt, the screening of the same DVD and a concert by the
Coral
Universitat de les Illes Balears. There will also be a presentation
in Eivissa on Wednesday 23.
Also in October, the
Balearic Government
will present
a web dedicated to Francesc de Borja Moll that will feature
information on the activities of centenary, bibliography, etc.
