The Espai Cultural Can Ventosa is holding until January 31 an educational
exhibition
"Caiguts
del Cel", where they talk about the perception throughout history of
the
comets,
meteorites
and meteoroids, and the scientific advances to discover their secrets
little by little.
On occasions signs of good luck, in others warnings of the end of the
world (as was the case of
Halley's
comet), the exhibition is a good occasion to get rid of myths and find
out really well. The exhibition talks about the impact of meteorites
on Earth, such as the one in Mexico that finished off the dinosaurs millions
of years ago, and about the risks of new collisions with Earth of this
kind (one every 15 million years). You can widen your information
about comets and meteorites on the web of the
Grup
d'Estudis Astronòmics. Amongst other things, you can admire
a reproduction of
Giotto,
that was the closest to approach Halley.
