If you look at the photo with this news, you may think that the Robopot
is not much to talk about. But this machine is able to identify obstacles
and when the project is finished, the robot will be able to clean or transport
objects in industrial areas.
Robopot is the fruit of work by the Ibizan doctor and engineer in telecommunications,
Josep Maria Mirats, who has been working for five years in the
Institut
de Robōtica i Informātica Industrial in Barcelona (you
can still see his old
curriculum
on this web page), but he has come back to Eivissa to work for the
Consell.
In his free time, for months (and he still has half a year's work left)
he has been creating this robot. Robopot works with two connected
computers. The first works the wheels moving the robot, while the second
has awareness of surroundings and observes it, to see where to send Robopot.
The "eyes" of this machine are four infrared sensors.
