Sant Miquel de Balansat is one of the towns on Eivissa that keeps its
traditions best. The patron saint fiestas for Sant Miquel, as for
the
Passos
for Maundy Thursday and the
traditional dances held every Thursday, are a good example of this.
In the "Santmiquelada", the popular name for the fiesta on September
29, the most outstanding events are the procession and the folk dancing
after the mass at mid day; and also the reading of the proclamation, this
year by Antoni Marí Marí, the mayor of
Sant
Joan, in the evening, before the dance.
As usual, the fiesta programme includes a wide range of activities for
all ages, that will last until Sunday, October 12. After the success
of the first edition, the Computer Campus will be repeated, and will be
held on Saturday 26 in the municipal premises, organised by Sys Informática.
Another repetition for this year is the performance by the Ibizan rock
group
Pota Lait, who thanks to the
grand success they had last year, will return to play on Friday evening
September 26, together with the Can Raia Rocky Band.
Amongst the novelties, worth mentioning is the performance by the Madrid
band
La Frontera, that will
take place on Saturday 27, and also the "First Gathering of Veteran Cars
and Motorbikes" to be held on Sunday 28 as from 10 a.m., coinciding with
the exhibition by the Associació d'Apicultors d'Eivissa i Formentera.
