Joan Marí Juan opened the bar Las Dalias in 1954, coinciding with the fiestas for Sant Carles de Peralta (Santa Eulària des Riu). In the first years, the activity of the premises varied from grand fiestas to tourist barbecues and various shows. In the eighties, Joan Marí's son, known to his friends as "Juanito", took over the running of the bar. At this time the garden was refurbished and the Mercadillo Hippy was created, and is one of the most important on the island. The Mercadillo, together with different external factors, such as the creation of the prestigious recording studio, Estudios Mediterráneo, in the neighbouring Sant Joan, attracted a long list of wellknown artists to Las Dalias, including Nina Hagen, Mike Oldfield or Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones, amongst others. The Sala became the centre of Rock & Roll, marking the history of the area.
After the eighties, the musical activity descended and the Hippy Market was promoted, with the creation of the Christmas Market and the organisation of different exhibitions and antique auctions.
At present the Canadian ex muscian, Chris González, runs the bar, and he has renovated the musical programme of the Sala with concerts by local groups and from all over Spain.
The Mercadillo Hippy, a compulsory visit by the artisans of the island, opens every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from April to October. It is one of the main attractions for Sant Carles de Peralta and continues to be frequented by famous artists who visit Las Dalias to acquire original artisan products of a high quality or simply to spend a pleasant day surrounded by nature and enjoying the Ibizan cuisine and natural fruit juices that are made in the garden.
