Everything about the new Internet Law (II)

On October 12, 2002, the new Spanish Law for services of the Information society and electronic commerce (LSSICE), popularly known as the LSSI, came in force. The controversial norm regulates the services of the information society and electronic contracts stipulating the obligations and responsibilities of the so called suppliers of services of the information society.

In view of the complexity of the new legal text and great number of new obligations and responsibilities that will fall on the so called "Suppliers of services for the information society" , on September 2 BalearWeb published an article called Everything about the new Internet law that reviews the most important aspects of the LSSICE.

Since then, many webmasters worried about the new law have contacted BalearWeb. This worry has been accentuated by the provisional closure of Kriptópolis, web portal that has leaded the opposition to the law. Following Kriptópolis, over 250 webmasters in Spain have also closed their webs.

With the aim of summarising and clarifying the new Law, BalearWeb has prepared a new article defining who is affected by the law, the main stipulated obligations, the responsibilities and imposed sanctions. The text is available in Catalan and Spanish.

Moreover BalearWeb has opened a debate about the Law with the question: Does Internet need a law like the LSSI?
